Saint Ignatius Prep Drama Club
visits the Prospect Playhouse:
Some 30 school children with
acting on their mind toured the Prospect Playhouse today.
Accompanied by club leader, teacher Carla Braccia, and
volunteer parents Louise Baulk and Maria Leggatt, together
with other parents, the club has students from Kindergarten
up to year 6 participating. The purpose of the club is give
students of all ages exposure to drama and it’s different
elements whilst having fun doing so. The trip was organised
through Theatre Manager Peter Phillips with Public Relations
Committee Chair Paul de Freitas conducting the tour for the
kids. Due to the number involved, the tour restricted itself
to the stage area. Future visits comprising smaller groups
will take in sound, lighting, wardrobe and props. |

Paul de Freitas shows the effect
of lighting to the children explaining that as the
brightness of the lights increase, the actors are more
blinded by the lights and therefore less visually aware of
the audience. Lighting creates mood and intensity. |

The children are shown a
representation of London painted by Penny Phillips as a
backdrop for a window in the forthcoming production of "The
Judith Code". The backdrop must be much wider than the
window so that audiences left and right see it. |

So much to see - so little time!
Paul de Freitas begins to explain how sets are flown
allowing for very quick scene changes. The Prospect
Playhouse has been rigged to fly two back flats. Use of
these was pioneered in "The Christmas Carol". |
